Be the light in the darkness

And remember why you came.

I invite you to take a few minutes to listen to this energizing song, feel the drumbeat, and embrace the urge to shine your light in the darkness that surrounds us now. After you listen to it, come back and read the lyrics and how it inspired me!

And her lyrics:

Come, weavers of story, art and song
Let us gather together for the time has come
To weave a new vision
For those yet to come
For we are the ancestors of our great granddaughters and sons.

Bring your voice, your hands, your heart or your drum
Whatever it is that you make your art from
For if we don’t we may well choke
On all the words we never spoke and all the songs and poems we never wrote, and the fires within will let turn to smoke.
For a vision, a dream, channeled through a brush stroke, a song or a scene
Can be the spark that lights the dark we find ourselves in
Art is and always has been a way for spirit to be seen.

So come way-showers, weavers of spirit in form, let us gather together around this fire once more singing:

What wants to come through you?
Call it in, call it in
Remember why you came!

And Sing! even if your voice shakes
Dance! until your heart breaks open
Sing! Even if your voice shakes
We have come to create beauty!

These lyrics and that incessant drumbeat have inspired me to keep shining my the light.

How did they land with you?

Do they feel like a call to action to you?

Here’s my response:

Be the light in the darkness!

We cannot deny the darkness, but we can choose not to live in it.

We are the light bearers called to shatter the darkness.

We are the soul tenders keeping the divine flame alive in us.

We are the weavers creating and calling in a new vision of the world.

Choose to be the light that illuminates the darkness we find ourselves in.

The time has come, now, especially at this time of Lent, to return to that which is truest in us.

Return to the divine spark within.

Reclaim your power.

Exclaim your voice.

What is it you stand for?

What is your vision?

What is the vision that you have come here for?

What wants to come through you?

Call it in!

The darkness threatens to choke our joy and drag us into despair.

But that darkness that swirls around us is not what the Spirit planned for us.

We are called to make visible the invisible spirit who has a different vision than the one we’ve been sleepwalking through.

The time has come!

Do you feel the urgency?

There is no time to argue with the inner critics.

There is no time wait for permission.

The time is now.

Start now.

Be loud.

Raise your voice.

Create the vision one brushstroke, one pen stroke, at a time.

Bring your light into the world.

We need it now.

Liberate your radical imagination.

Create your life anew.

Create a beloved community around you.

Just begin.

In the midst of the unending avalanche of bad news that keeps getting worse, I have been struggling to find that line between being informed and falling into a pit of despair.

And yet, I’ve found glimmers of hope:

  • Listen again to this energizing song by Olivia Fern, my inspiration for today’s piece!

  • Read all the posts by Katherine Tucker at The Spirit With Us on Substack.

  • Spend some time in silent solitude, listening for your own wisdom to surface.

  • Find signs of joy - Spring is almost here! Daylight Savings Time returns on March 9th. Can you find any crocus blooms peeking up from the still cold ground?

  • Express yourself through creativity! Create something colorful and bold. Creativity is an act of resistance. You are invited to join me in a virtual gathering where we art materials to work through our feelings. Interested? More details coming soon!

Where are you finding hope? Where are you finding nuggets of joy or pockets of rest?

As you may know, Lent begins this Wednesday, March 5th. The 40-day period leading up to Easter is a time of preparation, kind of like spring cleaning for the soul. Not all Christians observe Lent, but I think it offers a good opportunity to take stock, review, and readjust where you are headed in your life. Query whether the road you’re following is leading you where you want to go, and whether it’s helping you become who you want to be.

If you were raised with the Lenten duty to “give up” stuff, consider downloading this list of things to give up instead!

Doing Lent 2025 Differently

Shine brightly, my friend! That’s an act of resistance!
